The Public Speaking course provides students with invaluable communication skills which they will be able to utilise throughout their school life,  and beyond.

The program offers engaging and practical lessons on how to plan, structure and deliver various speech types, from informative to persuasive, instructional to entertaining.

We experiment with different public speaking styles: as news readers, storytellers, advertisers and presenters.

Students build their confidence through regular practice of impromptu and planned speeches, with ongoing self, peer and teacher evaluation.

Public Speaking
Yr 3-6

We learn...

Structure - from hooking your audience to impactful endings and everything in between.

Voice - pitch, pace, expression, emphasis, pause, modulation, resonance and breathing techniques.

Delivery - posture, stance, eye contact, body language, audience connection and dealing with nerves.

Time to Shine!

At the end of each term, Public Speaking students have the opportunity to present one of their speeches in front of a small audience of family and friends.

This provides invaluable public speaking practice in a safe and supportive environment.

Students are expected to do about half an hour of speech preparation at home every week. This enables the sessions to be practical, with a focus on honing and delivering speeches rather than writing, and receiving valuable peer and teacher feedback.
